Restoring & Rebuilding a Greenspace at Halidom

IST Gives Back

Restoring and Rebuilding a Greenspace at Halidom

Our company philosophy at IST Management always begins with recognizing the quality of something special and visualizing what it can become. Our thought leaders apply this process with everything IST touches, so it is no surprise that when building our brand-new headquarters, President & CEO Hal Blackman incorporated and restored a beautiful green space nearby.

IST's new headquarters sits on 6.4 acres in Southeast Atlanta, with Intrenchment Creek flowing through 25% of the land. While others would see this stream as a limitation in development, Vice President of Marketing and Real Estate, Brad Burgess saw it as an opportunity to give back to the community, our employees, and future residents by creating a green space out of an area that had been long neglected. Partnering with the City of Atlanta and a landscape architect, proposals to restore the creek and design a quarter-mile trail began.

Earth Day, Every Day

Preservation of the land was critical to IST's design. Removing invasive species, trash, and pollution, preserving hardwood trees, and replanting native vegetation restored Intrenchment Creek to its natural state. A paved walking path carves alongside the stream, and soon, benches will accent the park's trail. What was once overgrown and hidden is now clear and thoughtfully preserved.

Restoring Intrenchment Creek is ongoing due to its many years of neglect. IST will continue to invest in revitalizing the creek area to cleanse the stream as it flows through Atlanta. Within the next 24 months, the construction of an 89-unit residential building will accompany the 6,000 square foot retail space at Halidom. The green space will be a resource for all facilities, providing a peaceful retreat from the busy city.

Investing in Our Planet

IST's sustainable practices do not end at the Greenspace. Our new headquarters features energy-efficient LED lighting managed by sensors, a recycling program, limited single-use products, and bulk food options. IST employees will receive educational classes on recycling in the future to collectively work towards reducing our waste. Investing in our environment and reducing our carbon footprint allows us to envision the potential of our new headquarters and how we can thrive within it.

Things can only go up from here, literally. Shade covering trees line the property, and as time passes, the canopy will become fuller and more abundant. This year's Earth Day theme is "Invest in Our Planet," With our new trail and sustainable additions to Halidom, we know the return for these investments will be tenfold. The new green space will only become lusher and more scenic as new trees and plants grow and frame the area into an oasis for IST and the community.
