The Impact of Your Digital Presence

Most people are comfortable using LinkedIn for networking. Connect with someone... like a few posts... maybe leave a comment... But, you know, creating successful thought leadership content centers on presenting a consistent point of view.

Throughout IST's success, strong relationships remain foundational to our growth. Today, relationships start before you ever meet a client face to face. We're making first impressions online now... your digital presence needs to speak before you do. "You never get a second chance to make a first impression." - Will Rogers

Leading Conversations

Social selling on LinkedIn is a great way to leverage your online network. You have people you went to school with, former colleagues, people you've met at conferences, friends... you probably even have friends of friends you've only met once! You combine that with traditional networking process... you're unstoppable. You're connecting with these people all the time, liking each other's posts, comments, and maybe shares. If you're interested in learning about a specific industry or role, you might even search for new connections this way…. But this is reactive...

Making meaningful connections that keep you on people's minds? That's the goal. You want to make an impact because they may not need you right now... but when they do, you're the first thing that comes to mind. This requires thoughtful content creation and leadership that proves you're an expert. Becoming a thought leader takes much more proactive planning, it means you have a unique point of view that will provide valuable insight to potential followers, partners, or clients.

Thought leaders' LinkedIn profiles read like more than just a resume. Creating content isn't just for influencers anymore; it's for any professional who is looking to build credibility early and stay relevant without relying on cold-calling. Without creating content…you rely on 1-1 interactions, which are much harder to scale.

My Advice for Future Content Creators

  1. Say something real... Think about your tone, voice, and writing habits. Think about what fits your communication style: voice-to-text, typing, or videos. That's all the content.
  2. Talk about problems, even if you don't have the full solution just yet.
  3. Stay short and specific... attention is limited.
  4. Keep going! Make it a habit!

You want to create authority, be consistent... and, most important, have a clear, cohesive idea that's connected through all of your content effortlessly.

Tracking Engagement & Behavior

Once you get in the flow of creating content regularly, you'll see growth in your engagement. Start noticing who views your profile... Notice the types of content prospects and potential buyers are interacting with... Track engagement spikes and always ask why. This strategy is building a network of people who trust you... That's how you know you're on the right track!

The Real Advantage

You know, we often underestimate ourselves. Say you spend about 6+ hours a week on social media for business purposes? People are looking at your profile anyway, so why not make it count? If you're serious about hitting your professional goals and growing in your career in 2026, being intentional, visible, and solving problems through content creation will attract valuable connections.

Creativity isn't always natural, and creating content isn't effortless. But… don't be afraid to start! Networking is the building block in starting partnerships, but content is the key to making and maintaining those relationships.

The 4 Essential Pillars of Thought Leadership:

  1. What are you seeing?
  2. What are you learning?
  3. What are you solving?
  4. Who are you building with?

The Future of Service is Measurable

The expectations are higher. The pace is faster. And clients aren't just looking for someone to show up and check the box anymore. They want partners. They want people who can anticipate what's coming… and more importantly, show them the impact of what's actually being done.
A Company Focused on Excellence

If you don’t build something intentionally, day by day, you can’t expect long-term success to show up magically. We didn’t get here by accident. When I started IST almost 29 years ago with two employees in Atlanta, I didn’t have venture capital. I didn’t have debt.
Widening the Hiring Lens to Recruit Stronger Teams

At IST, we’ve always believed that if you get the people right, everything else follows. You can build great systems. You can invest in incredible technology. But if you don’t have people who care, who want to serve and want to make an impact… none of it works.
